In Ames, Iowa, in the 80's, Dennis Hildreth and Rob Rule hooked up at Iowa State University, where they were both attending classes. The Mammy Nuns were already a band when Rule was recruited by Hildreth to play bass.
After developing a reputation as a solid party band, the group started to get some bar shows. A couple of years later, the band and some friends moved out to Los Angeles for various reasons.
There they added Rule's roommate, Rusty Wood, on bass, and Rule moved into a guitar slot. It wasn't too long before Rule moved to Minnesota . Soon after Rule's return to the midwest other band members followed suit .
Once again, the Mammy Nuns started playing house parties, where they made a name for themselves. They even started the St. Paul Music Club, an organization made up of area musicians and music lovers, which now calls St. Paul's hippest music venue, the Turf Club, its headquarters.
In the fall of 1995, Rob asked Turf owner Mark Johnson if they could play the bar. It 's now been 9 years every Tuesday night at the Turf ,

They never fail to bring a smile to the faces of both new and old audience members.
